AEW President Tony Khan recently talked to the media following the Double or Nothing PPV event. This past Friday saw Dynamite airing on TNT, with Wednesday nights being off the table for a couple of weeks due to other sports on the channel.

During the broadcast, AEW had a special appreciation segment for then AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. It was during this segment that Spanish AEW commentator Willie Urbina was heard mocking Shida’s accent.

Alex Abrahantes, Dasha Kuret and Thunder Rosa were also on commentary during the segment. Both Kuret and Rosa were awkwardly laughing while Urbina make his comments, with both asking him to stop on multiple occasions.

It was confirmed by AEW that Willie Urbina had been released from the company over the weekend.

‘I didn’t think there was any excuse,’ Khan said at the post show scrum, discussing why Urbina was released. ‘I was not happy with it.”

“So after I heard what was said and having talked to the other commentators involved about what was said about her, who I also apologized to, I thought it was best for the company to make the decision that we made’ Khan concluded.
