New AEW signee CM Punk made his debut for the company this past Friday at the AEW Rampage show in Chicago, Illinois.

Punk revealed on the show that he will be facing AEW star Darby Allin at the AEW All Out PPV event, in his first pro wrestling match since 2014.

CM Punk revealed on Kap & J. Hood on ESPN Chicago how he is preparing to enter the ring for the first time in 7 years on September 5th in Chiacgo.

‘I think it’s a lot of ’˜can Punk still go?’ Can Punk still wrestle in the ring? ’˜Can he be entertaining?’’ CM Punk began. ‘Fortunately for me, I was never a guy that did a whole bunch of crazy flips and stuff like that.

“So I don’t have to go back and try to do these amazing athletic feats” Punk continued. “My goal is to tell a story. And the way I get ready for this is to watch a lot of Darby Allin matches. It’s no different than a sports team watching tape on the team that they’re playing.”

Punk would go on to praise his opponent at All Out, saying that he has been ‘studying tape’ on the former pro skateboarder.

‘I watch him, I see what he can do, and then I get to get creative about it” CM Punk noted. “And that’s how I get ready. Obviously, I’m in a television show that’s called Heels that’s on the Starz network too.”

“I’ve been in the ring. We’re filming wrestling. I have gotten in the ring and I have been training but not super extensively because it beats your body up, so I’m trying to be smart about it” Punk concluded. “But mostly just watching tape on him and I’m impressed by what I see.’

Here is what AEW have in store for this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite:

  • CM Punk makes his first appearance on AEW Dynamite.
  • ‘Varsity Blonds’ Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison vs. ‘The Lucha Brothers’ Penta El Zero Mideo and Rey Fenix in an AEW Tag Title Eliminator tournament match.
  • Jamie Hayter vs. Red Velvet.
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy.
  • Malakai Black vs. Brock Anderson.
