AEW President Tony Khan recently appeared on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast. Khan appeared on the show to discuss AEW, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham Football Club.
One of the topics raised was the idea of Tony Khan becoming a character on All Elite programming, much like the on-screen managerial personalities such as Vince McMahon or Eric Bischoff.
‘I’ve done stuff on other wrestling shows that kind of promote AEW and cross over,’ Khan would begin on the podcast. ‘But that’s kind of the line I don’t want to cross, because I feel like you disappear up your own butt when you start writing that way.’
Tony Khan also discussed WCW specifically on the podcast, saying how he has learned from the mistakes made by World Championship Wrestling. One of these mistakes was the constant use of the aforementioned Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo on Nitro and Thunder.

‘Another major, major issue for them, in my opinion, was the management” Khan stated. “Most wrestling companies that have been really successful over time have had one supreme commander at the top, who’s like owned it, booked it, done everything.”
“Run the the place, run the management” Tony Khan continued. “Whether it was Vince McMahon for years, organizing everything, Cowboy Bill Watts, Eddie Graham, Fritz Von Erich and countless others.”

“And so I think that made sense as a business model. It’s like the strong management WCW didn’t have, I can provide’ the AEW owner would conclude.
AEW are set to return to their Wednesday night slot on TNT this week for Dynamite.
