Former WWE Superstar CM Punk is reportedly back in talks regarding a return to the squared circle. According to a new report from Fightful Select, the Straight Edge star is in negotiations to make a return to the ring.
The site noted that CM Punk “has been in talks to make a return to pro wrestling as an in-ring performer, with sources indicating that AEW is the most likely landing point.”
Select did not believe that Punk had officially signed a contract, nor a timeline for a set return date for the former WWE Champion.
Punk and a company official have apparently been in talks, but there is nothing beyond that regarding creative or actually WHICH company CM Punk has been speaking to.
CM Punk returning to wrestling
It was also revealed by Select that higher-ups in WWE are of the impression that CM Punk will be heading to All Elite Wrestling shortly, but AEW or Punk himself has not confirmed this.
If Punk were to return, it could be a huge moment for AEW as they build the Dynamite and soon be unveiled Rampage shows.
A name the size of Phil Brooks would certainly put a dent in the competition, but there are rumors that several other companies are interested in the Straight Edge star from Chicago.
It’s fair to say that this could be a major game-changer for AEW IF they’re able to get the former MMA fighter under contract and appearing in-ring once again. We hope to update more on this situation as it develops.
