Promoter Frank Warren recently gave some huge praise to an up and coming fighter. Speaking on Frank Warren TV, the legendary promoter stated that Willy Hutchinson could/likely will, be the next Joe Calzaghe, making him a fighter to watch going forward.

“I’m gonna tell you, Willy Hutchinson, provided he keeps doing what he’s doing? He will be a World Champion” Frank Warren would begin. “He is an exceptional, exceptional talent. Willy really is an EXCEPTIONAL talent. I liken him to Joe Calzaghe, right this minute he reminds me of a very young, in his own right, a very young Joe Calzaghe. He is an exceptional talent.”

The 22 year old British fighter turned pro in 2017, however he was the first Scottish boxer to win Gold at an Amateur World Championship. Hutchinson took gold at the 2014 European Junior Championships and 2016 Youth World Championships.

Willy Hutchinson’s pro career currently sits at 13-0, with 9 knockouts. Hutchinson would fight on three occasions back in 2020, defeating Edgars Sniedze (February 22nd), Ben Thomas (August 28th) and Jose Miguel Fandino (October 10th).

Hutchinson signed for Frank Warren’s Queensbury promotion back in May of 2019, and clearly Warren has some huge aspirations for the young Light Heavyweight/Super Middleweight. Will Hutchinson be able to reach the levels of Calzaghe’s 46-0 career? That remains to be seen.
