MMA legends have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to rap icon DMX. It was revealed that the 50 year old hip hop legend died on Friday of this week. TMZ originally reported that the rapper suffered a drug overdose.

Murray Richman, DMX’s lawyer, later said to The Associated Press he could not confirm if this was the cause of the heart attack.

DMX and his influence has been felt throughout the combat sports world for an extremely long time. Several of MMA’s top stars would use the classic tracks as walk-out music, including Featherweight Brian Ortega, who frequently uses ‘X Gon’ Give It to Ya.’

Legends Pay Respect to DMX

Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva took to Instagram to memorialise the rapper. “Today is a very sad day!” Silva wrote. “DMX, I’ll be forever your fan! Thank you, you will always be remembered with respect and a lot of affection from me! May God comfort the family! RIP.”

Frank Mir wrote “I remember watching icons of the fight game like @MikeTyson and @ChuckLiddell walk out to his music and it gave me chills. It was something special. RIP.”

Newer MMA stars such as Belal Muhammad and Tyler Diamond also paid tribute. “No one could hype me up like DM can ..Rest in peace” Belal wrote, “Bro… I’m just seeing the news. Damn man. RIP to one of the greatest, DMX” was Diamond’s take on it.
