UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling and Matt Serra appear to be back on good terms. Before Sterling won the Bantamweight title at UFC 259, he began training at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas and added Eric Nicksick to his corner. With the addition of Nicksick to his team, Serra was dropped.
Serra recently discussed his absence from UFC 259, making the following the comments during the most recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
‘So when I talked to him, we talked a little bit about sparring partners and this and that’ Matt Serra began. ‘So I understand if it’s about that, I understand. But then I’m watching (UFC 259) and I have nothing against Eric Nicksick, he’s a nice guy and it’s not his fault Aljo went there, but it’s like, hey man, you’re gonna have some guy you been working with for three months and I’ve been with you for seven years? If that’s what you want then I understand.’

‘I’m not going to lie to you, I was a little hurt. And I love everyone involved, but you gotta know when people make choices there are consequences” Matt Serra finished.
It appears now though that the two men are once again working together. Matt Serra released a video to Instagram detailing how he and the Champion are planning for the Petr Yan rematch. ‘People have been giving Aljamain Sterling a lot of hate,’ Serra said in the video. ‘One because of the knee, and two because they think me and him have some beef or something like that. It’s true, I’m stepping away from cornering for now, spending time with the family, but myself and the ’˜FunkMaster’ are always gonna be cool. I’m gonna help him defend this belt.’
