UFC and MMA star Brendan Schaub recently discussed how UFC have approached hosting fights during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whilst some sports have struggled to work within the parameters, or even had to cancel events? UFC has continued to run events via the Fight Island concept in Abu Dhabi. Schaub would make the comments during the latest episode of his Below The Belt podcast.

“F*ck all the individual awards” Schaub began, discussing the media critics who are putting together year end awards for MMA. “The awards have to go to the UFC, the UFC should take every award. Every media member? Every single person that writes about mixed martial arts? Anyone who does a podcast, anyone who does any hosting gig anywhere around the world? They should be bow down to the UFC.”

There were fans and media critical of the company for continuing to run during the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation is of course a difficult one to traverse; fighters are independent contractors and need to make a living and if there’s no promotions open to fight in? They do not get paid.

Brendan Schaub on Critics

“Because they figured it out, against all odds” Brendan Schaub would continue. “They continued to give you fights that you can talk about. Fights that you can break down post-fight analysts, pre fight analysis all that stuff. They made it so you get a paycheque. So anyone criticising them? Just leave, just get out of a sport. It doesn’t make sense. How can you criticise them?”
