UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic had his title on the line this past Saturday at UFC 260. The firefighter was defending against Francis Ngannou inside the UFC APEX from Las Vegas, Nevada live on PPV.

Although he is regarded by many as the Greatest Heavyweight in UFC history, Miocic entered this fight as the underdog.

Miocic was looking for his 7th successful defence of the Championship when he headed into the octagon at the weekend. If Stipe won? He would’ve broken the record for defences of the belt.

The fight ended in the second round with a brutal knockout of the now former Champion. Ngannou was extremely impressive in his takedown defence and general patience before getting the knockout win.

Dana White on Stipe Miocic

UFC President Dana White spoke to the media following UFC 260, and in particular talked about the future of Stipe Miocic in the company.

‘I don’t know what the future holds for Stipe,’ White said to reporters. ‘Obviously after this fight, he’s got to go home and heal up and spend some time with his family and then we’ll talk about what’s next for him. But I have nothing but the utmost respect for Stipe Miocic and everything he’s done in this sport and for this company.’

‘I’ve had this weird relationship with Stipe, but I love Stipe,’ Dana White continued. ‘The guy is as solid as you can get. (He) kept his job as a firefighter, is loved in his hometown, and will go down as the greatest heavyweight ever in UFC history ’“ in the sport’s history, actually. Tonight’s Francis’ first night.’

White did indicate before the contest that a rematch could be possible; however the prospect of Jon Jones taking on Francis Ngannou next looms.
