Former UFC 2 Division Champion Daniel Cormier recently discussed the potential match-up between new UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic had his title on the line this past Saturday at UFC 260. The firefighter was defending against Francis Ngannou inside the UFC APEX from Las Vegas, Nevada live on PPV.
Although he is regarded by many as the Greatest Heavyweight in UFC history, Miocic entered this fight as the underdog.
Miocic was looking for his 7th successful defence of the Championship when he headed into the octagon at the weekend. If Stipe won? He would’ve broken the record for defences of the belt.
The fight ended in the second round with a brutal knockout of the now former Champion. Ngannou was extremely impressive in his takedown defence and general patience before getting the knockout win.
Daniel Cormier on Jon Jones
Following the fight, UFC President Dana White said that Jon Jones should consider moving down to 185 pounds instead of challenging the powerful Ngannou. DC however, emphatically stated that Jones is not afraid of mixing it up with Ngannou.
‘Jon Jones, for everything that is between us, is not afraid of Francis Ngannou,’ Daniel Cormier stated on the DC & Helwani podcast. ‘This is absurd that people think that.’
‘Jon Jones is one of the most talented guys I have seen inside the Octagon” DC continued. “And if you have to find someone who can piece together a way to solve the Francis Ngannou puzzle, it is Jon Jones.”
The potential match-up between Jones and Ngannou is nowhere near confirmed officially, but it is a bout that many fans want to see going forward.
