UFC Heavyweight Jon Jones has reacted to the now ’˜official’ retirement of UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Khabib said after his win against Justin Gaethje that he was going to retire from fighting in the cage. The Russian great stated that his mother wished for him to retire, and he was going to honour those wishes due to his father/head coach passing away from COVID-19 complications.

UFC President Dana White confirmed on Friday that Khabib had now retired, despite the President attempting to tease him back for a potential chance to go 30-0.

Dana White and Jon Jones on Khabib Nurmagomedov Retirement

‘29-0 it is. He is 100% officially retired’ Dana White wrote. ‘It was incredible to watch you work @TeamKhabib, thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend.’

Now Jon Jones has got in on the act of disparaging Khabib on his way out, joining the likes of Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson over the past few days.

In a now deleted Instagram post, Jones wrote “nothing wrong with going out on top, enjoy retirement kid. I’m talking to all you Khabib fans out there. 15 world titles to your guy’s four and you are really talking about who is the best fighter ever?”

“You guys are joking right? 15-4, are you guys kidding me” Jon Jones continued. ‘The only guy who could possibly come back and challenge my record of what I’ve done in the UFC is possibly Georges St Pierre.”

Jon Jones finished by saying that he has a lot more to give before he hangs up the gloves. “He [GSP] would have to come back and win two championship fights to tie me and I’m not even retired yet. I’m 33 years old. I’ve got a whole another chapter to go through. You guys are nuts.”
