UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has dropped a huge hint that he may in fact be returning to the octagon. The Russian great has been retired since beating Justin Gaethje back in October 2020, taking his undefeated streak to 29-0 in the process.

Khabib recently posted an image to Twitter with former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta, whilst also hinting that he wants to meet with Dana White to arrange a return. “It was good to see you Lorenzo. Dana White send me location” Khabib Nurmagomedov wrote. Following the words written there was a fist emoji, which should excite fans as it seemingly suggests he wants to fight.

Whilst many believed that Khabib Nurmagomedov had in fact retired, some UFC fighters have been urging Dana White to speak to the Russian further. One of these is former two division Champion Daniel Cormier, who himself is a friend of the Lightweight Champion.

Daniel Cormier on Khabib Nurmagomedov

‘I mean, he just dominated a very tough Justin Gaethje’ Cormier recently said on the DC & Helwani show. ‘So yeah, that’s why he’s the man. That’s why he is the absolute man, and that is why Dana White continues to ask him to come back to fighting.’

‘I wouldn’t stop [if I were White],’ Cormier continued. ‘I’d [schedule] ten meetings [with Nurmagomedov]. Every time he’d be willing to take a meeting I would keep talking, I’d keep trying to convince him.’

It looks as though we may be getting a return from Khabib, although there’s no indication as to when this will be.
