Tracy Cortez Says The Doctor STOPPED Her Weight Cut Before Fight

UFC flyweight prospect Tracy Cortez earned her third company win this past weekend at UFC Fight Night: Whitter vs Gastelum. Cortez managed to defeat Justine Kish via decision on the main card of Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 22.

Although Cortez won, she did not take home her full pay due to the half a pound extra weight she carried into the weigh-ins. Tracy Cortez therefore had to sacrifice 20 percent of her purse, due to a weight of 126.5, which is over the non-title flyweight limit.

Speaking to media after the fight, Cortez relayed her frustration at not getting the opportunity to lose that extra half pound and get full pay for the night.

‘So I was point-5 off, and they normally give us an hour to cut the weight, but they didn’t clear me,’ Cortez told reporters at the UFC Apex. ‘The doctor didn’t let me cut the half-a-pound.”

Tracy Cortez on Doctor’s Orders

‘He checked me out, and he wasn’t OK with me cutting the rest of the weight” Tracy Cortez continued. “I could’ve cut it, I could’ve peed it, but he didn’t let me.’

‘I thought I was going to get that extra hour, so I was very confident I was going to make 126 on the dot,’ Cortez noted. ‘So when the doctor didn’t clear me, my coach fought and said that it’s point-5 pounds.”

“I’m fine, I was walking, and I did everything he asked me” Cortez concluded. “I was just fine, and he still didn’t clear me. Protocols, which I have no other choice but respect.’
