It was recently reported by Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Chris Jericho is no longer under contract to New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Meltzer wrote that “the last Tokyo Dome show he did with Hiroshi Tanahashi in 2020 was the final fight of his deal, and Harold Meij was negative on it due to the high cost but others in the company had a different opinion.”
The Wrestling Observer also noted that New Japan may not be able to afford a deal with Chris Jericho when they return in full from the COVID-19 pandemic. “Even after the pandemic New Japan is going to have to get its finances back on track to where they can afford that level of a deal” Meltzer wrote.
Chris Jericho ‘Le Troll
Other sites were quick to post the news, with ‘Le Champion’ deciding to troll these outlets for their ‘breaking’ story. “Hardly hot news….” Chris Jericho wrote. “I haven’t been under contract with @njpw1972 since Jan 6, 2020.”
Jericho did recently reveal that he was interested in a return to the promotion.
