Hulk Hogan is a retired professional wrestler, known as one of the most recognised and influential figures in the history of the business.

Hogan is generally considered to be part of the wrestling ‘mount rushmore’ feature the four most popular wrestlers of all time.

In his early career, Hogan featured for such companies as Championship Wrestling from Florida, the Continental Wrestling Association and the National Wrestling Alliance.

In 1979 he met with Vince McMahon senior and signed with the WWF.

For a short period, he would leave and feature for New Japan Pro Wrestling and the American Wrestling Alliance.

In 1982 Vince McMahon junior purchased WWF from his father with the hopes of expanding the company from the territories into a national juggernaut.

Hogan rejoined the company and quickly became their biggest draw.

His first WWF Championship win came against The Iron Sheik at Madison Square Garden.

From there, as per the commentary from Gorilla Monsoon, ‘Hulkamania’ was born.

Hogan subsequently became the biggest babyface wrestling had ever seen, taking advantage of ‘nice guy’ traits like telling children to take their vitamins and say their prayers.

The Hulkster was in the main event of seven of the first eight Wrestlemanias.

In the first, he teamed with Mr T to take on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff.

The most famous match of Hogan’s career took place at Wrestlemania three when he faced Andre the Giant in the main event. In front of 93,173 fans at the Pontiac Silverdome, Hogan did the impossible – lifting the mammoth size of Andre for a slam before eventually defending the WWF Championship via the Immortal Leg Drop.

This match and feud was seen as the pinnacle of 1980s wrestling.

Hogan would hold the title for four years before losing it to Andre the Giant at the Main Event.

Hogan would soon thereafter become involved in a partnership with Miss Elizabeth and Macho Man Randy Savage, known as the Mega Powers.

A popular duo, the Mega Powers would eventually implode which led to a Wrestlemania match between the pair for the WWF Championship, which Hogan won.

At Wrestlemania six, he faced the Ultimate Warrior in a title versus title match including the WWF Championship and Intercontinental Championship, which Warrior won.

The next year at Wrestlemania, he would defeat St Slaughter for the title, only to lose it to the Undertaker at Survivor Series.

After a steroid abuse scandal rocked the company, Hogan took a leave of absence.

Some time after his return, he controversially won the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania from Yokozuna on the same night Yokozuna defeated Bret Hart for the title.

He would depart the WWF in 1993.

Hogan returned to NJPW for a period before debuting for WCW in 1994, where he won the World Heavyweight Championship in his debut against Ric Flair.

He would subsequently feud again with Flair and also the likes of Vader, the Butcher and the Dungeon of Doom.

At Bash at the Beach in 1996, the Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) took on wrestlers loyal to WCW in a six-man tag team match.

There were references to a ‘third man’ who turned out to be Hogan, turning heel for the first time in 15 years.

From there, the New World Order was formed with Hogan, Hall and Nash.

Hollywood Hulk Hogan was born, and his heel persona included a change in music, ring attire and it his classic bears, which was dyed black as well as blonde.

In his Hollywood Hogan persona, he and the NWO would feud with the likes of Lex Luger, Sting, the Giant, and Goldberg,

Throughout this period, Hogan was criticised in real life for his influence on booking.

After refusing to job to Jeff Jarrett, Jarret came down to the ring and lay down, allowing Hogan to put his foot down to win. Vince Russo would subsequently savage Hogan for his booking influence and conduct backstage.

Not long after he left WCW.

Hogan made his return to the WWF in 2002 again as a member of the NWO.

At Wrestlemania 18 he took part in a dream match against The Rock. Throughout the match, Hogan was cheered while The Rock was booed, which led to a babyface turn for Hogan, who would go on to win the Undisputed title.

At Wrestlemania 19, he fought ad defeated Vince McMahon.

In a third period with WWF, now WWE, he was involved in notable feuds with Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels.

He would go on to have an on screen role and backstage role with TNA.

Between 2015 and 2018, WWE severed ties with Hogan due to the release of a controversial sex tape as well as accusations of racism.

As well as being a professional wrestler, Hogan has acted in various films including Rocky III, Suburban Commando and Santa with Muscles.
