AEW on-screen coach and former WWE agent Arn Anderson recently discussed the Elimination Chamber 2011 event on the ARN podcast. As is usual, Anderson and co-host Conrad Thompson discussed topics surrounding the time frame; this episode saw Arn Anderson rip into the former Sin Cara/Mistico.
When asked by Conrad why Sin Cara didn’t work out in WWE, Arn said “because they never asked anybody in America who we thought was the best Mexican wrestler in the world. This guy came in with all this hype. It was one of those times, it was discussed, and it was true, you need a Mexican star if you’re going to run Mexico or Spanish speaking countries.”
Arn Anderson on Sin Cara/Mistico
“Rey Mysterio was that guy” Arn Anderson continued. “And you don’t replace Rey. There’s nobody coming along. I’ve seen it to this day, there’s nobody that’s going to eclipse Rey Mysterio and all that he’s accomplished. But, those sitting in the genius office, the brain trust? I’m sure the conversation went like this: ‘okay Rey’s been hurt a couple times, he’s too little anyway. We got to get another Mexican star in here, what do you got?'”
Arn Anderson finished by completely lambasting Mistico for his attitude going in to WWE. “Well, this guy didn’t show me anything, not a damn thing, he had a bad attitude. If he spoke English? He acted like he didn’t. Now we’re not talking about Hunico, we’re talking about the original Sin Cara.”
“He was one of those guys that flat brought the Mexican style” Anderson continued. “That’s what he brought to our product, our product was not ready for that lack of contact, lack of selling all those things, just the whirlybird stuff that had no psychology behind it.”
