Edge Teases Challenging For NXT Championship at WrestleMania

WWE Royal Rumble 2021 winner Edge appeared on tonight’s episode of NXT on USA Network. The Rated R Superstar appeared in a segment featuring NXT Champion Finn Balor and #1 contender Pete Dunne.

It was confirmed that Balor vs Dunne would headline the next Takeover event. NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day takes place on Sunday February 14th from the Capitol Wrestling Center in Florida.

Edge vs Balor or Dunne?

Edge teased during the segment that he may challenge for the NXT Championship at WrestleMania, no matter who wins the NXT Championship match at Takeover. The former World Heavyweight Champion noted that the E in WWE is usually what the show is about (entertainment), but NXT is about the second W (wrestling). The Rated R Superstar also noted how NXT helped re-ignite his passion in pro wrestling and helped him prepare to return to WWE.

It’s likely that Edge will not be competing for the NXT Championship come WrestleMania in April, but this is a shrewd way for WWE to bring the Hall of Famer to the Wednesday night broadcast in a more ’˜natural’ way. NXT is going up against AEW’s Beach Break show tonight, so the confirmed appearance of The Rated R Superstar should help the flagging NXT program somewhat against their TNT competition.
