WWE has announced that next week’s episode of SmackDown on FOX will be a ‘Go Back’ edition of the show. Whilst it is not confirmed exactly what that means, it is likely to be along the lines of a Vintage type of show.
Interestingly, the video that WWE released teasing the SmackDown Go Back show has REALLY old spliced footage from the 80s and seemingly early 90s. SmackDown was only introduced to the WWE audience in the late 90s, as part of the boom period that was the Attitude Era.
WWE do extremely well ratings wise whenever they bring out a throwback episode of their weekly television offering. There hasn’t really been a proper throwback episode of SmackDown in the past.
Go Back SmackDown
If WWE were really going for a throwback vibe for Friday night? They should be looking at bringing back the giant fist; or at least using that iconic nonsense song from the original blue brand.
If they REALLY want to get fans excited with that old logo being prominent? There’s only one man who defines SmackDown…bring back The Rock for one night.
#Disclaimer – that’s not going to happen.
