WWE Superstar Becky Lynch made her return to the company at the WWE SummerSlam 2021 PPV event this past Sunday. The ‘Man’ returned to face Bianca Belair in a match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship that would end in just 36 seconds.

Ringside News recent revealed that the original plan for Becky Lynch was a return in October, likely as part of the build to the WWE Survivor Series PPV event.

“A tenured member of the creative team confirmed to us that Becky Lynch’s SummerSlam return was WWE calling an audible. Lynch was not supposed to return yet, but the decision was made when they realized that Sasha Banks could not work the Allegiant Stadium show.”

Sasha Banks has reportedly not been cleared to compete since her last appearance on WWE SmackDown. Banks appeared in a contract signing segment with Belair for their title match on Friday 13th, and she has not been seen since.

WWE still opted to run with the promotion for Banks vs Belair, despite knowing around 8 days prior that she would not be able to make the show itself. Reports indicated that both women were cleared earlier this week for the show, but Banks still did not show up on screen.

It is not known what the storyline implications are with Becky Lynch returning prematurely, however she is being rumored for a run as the top heel on WWE SmackDown against a babyface Bianca Belair. Whether the WWE audience will take to booing the Superstar remains to be seen.
