WWE Superstar and sure-fire Hall of Famer John Cena is reportedly on his way back to television in the next couple of weeks.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Cena will be returning to WWE television on the July 23 episode of SmackDown.

John Cena has been away from the company for over a year, with his last match coming at WrestleMania 36 against ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt. Cena was believed to have been ‘banished to the never-realm’ following that ‘match,’ so it will be interesting to see how they address this with his return.

John Cena vs Roman Reigns

Cena is apparently “scheduled to appear on WWE programming at some point over the next eleven days, as fans return” according to Fightful.

John Cena is currently pencilled in to be facing Roman Reigns at the upcoming SummerSlam PPV event. WWE are hoping to stack the card for the show as much as possible, and a Cena vs Reigns match for the Universal Championship would be a big box office draw for the show.

“Fightful has been told that the working plan for Cena is for him to appear on the July 23 episode of WWE Smackdown, and possibly sooner than that. As with anything, creative in wrestling can change on a whim, but as of July 13, this was the plan.”

Although Cena and Reigns have competed against each other before, this is a new Roman Reigns, having turned heel last year and begun his ‘Head of The Table’ run which has arguably been one of the best of his career.
