Tony Khan Confirms Interest In Signing Former WWE Superstar

All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan recently revealed that he is interested in signing a former WWE Superstar. Thea Trinidad/formerly Zelina Vega, is apparently on Khan’s radar as a potential signing down the line.

Speaking to Wrestling Observer Radio, Tony Khan confirmed that he is interested in signing Trinidad. ‘When we get through his (Women’s title eliminator tournament) and through (AEW Revolution)? I would be interested to see where she’s at.’

Thea Trinidad was controversially released by WWE in November 2020. WWE sent an edict down to their performers saying that they were banned from using third party platforms to promote themselves. At the time, Thea Trinidad was using Twitch as part of her personal branding.

The ‘final straw’ for WWE came when the former Zelina Vega set up an OnlyFans page. OnlyFans is a platform used to promote adult content; however there are some content creators that use it for different purposes. With WWE not liking the optics of a performer using a predominately adult based service they cut ties with Thea Trinidad.

This brought up the concept of independent contractor status for WWE Superstars; as barring third party affiliations under a ‘normal’ contractor business model would not be usual practice. Back in November there were rumblings from political names promising to investigate the matter further, however nothing publicly has surfaced thus far this year.

It will be interesting to see if Thea Trinidad does in fact make her way over to AEW in the coming months.
