New Japan Pro Wrestling star and co-host of the Talk’n Shop podcast Rocky Romero recently discussed Wrestle Kingdom 15. The two day event took place at the start of the month, with fans being in attendance just before Japan entered a ‘state of emergency’ in the country.

“12,500 something like that, 12,600 maybe?” Romero began on Talk’n Shop, saying how many fans were in attendance for Day 1 of the show. “Amazing for what’s going on right now” Romero continued, referencing the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions.

“You know it’s all socially distanced. I think that the original idea was they could have up to 20,000 [in attendance]” Romero continued. I think that was what they could do? But then things started to get worse in Tokyo, and then the local government said you have to put a cap on sales by the 29th December.”

Rocky Romero would finish by saying how Wrestle Kingdom 15 was hampered by the fact that there couldn’t be any walk-up fans on the day buying tickets. “So, usually there’s a walk up, you know, people will still buy tickets. People started to feel a little worried I think, as the countdown happened and you know cases started to go up in Tokyo. Usually there’d be people coming from all over the country, all over the world, etc. So I think people just thought ‘we’re gonna catch it on NJPWworld.'”
