UFC Welterweight fighter Colby Covington recently spoke to Helen Yee. The controversial 170lb contender discussed a number if topics during the interview, including where the talks between he and WWE currently stand.

Although Covington clearly wants to keep fighting, WWE is still very much in his plans. Colby Covington is an outspoken character, and already has the requisite promo ability to potentially become a big crossover star.

“Yeah those talks, you know they’re still there, they’re still fluid” Colby Covington began, discussing where he and WWE stand. “Vince McMahon knows about me, but I’ve made a point to the WWE that I don’t want to come back till fans come back you know?”

Colby Covington on WWE Transition

“I’m not going to go into the arena with an empty arena” Covington continued. “Especially during these COVID times. So you know, it doesn’t make sense for me to go over there until fans come back. I put on a show for the fans.”

“I know how to sell fights” Covington added. “I know how to play the game, play the character. So I wanna wait till fans come back, hopefully in the next six months to a year fans will come back and I’ll slowly transition there.”

Colby Covington finished by saying that it is still a few years out before he considers heading over to WWE. “[It’ll be] a couple years after I win the belt, [and have] defended it a couple of times.”

Many MMA stars have made the transition over the past few decades and done extremely well in the pro wrestling space. Covington has the tools to do it, but it remains to be seen if he makes the jump.
