This week the grandest stage of them all takes centre stage again as Wrestlemania comes to town at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
WWE often likes to mention how they make history, whether it be via attendances or more recently social media numbers, but this time last year they did indeed make history by holding the first-ever Wrestlemania event with no fans present.
’˜The show must go on’ as they say (or as Vince McMahon says), and last year it did.
Though it will be nowhere near the same as a regular Wrestlemania, with social distancing still present, there will at least be some fans in attendance for WM37, and that in itself gives cause for optimism for the event.
At the very least, the site of real people and not screens like within the Thunderdome will come as a joyous sight and a signal that better days are coming.
Here’s our preview for the much anticipated WWE Championship match between Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre.
WrestleMania – Bobby Lashley vs Drew McIntyre
There is an element of bittersweetness about this match as both of these men are basically veterans now, one of whom will win a championship match at Wrestlemania – again with hardly anybody there.
It is nice that Drew is in a title match again, but he simply must be rewarded with a title victory in a packed Wrestlemania at some point in the future after helping to carry the company through the pandemic as champion, with his first title win met with silence in the performance centre.
It seems ridiculous that it has taken Lashley this long to become champion, but he should actually be kept as champion after this.
Vince, have Bobby win, have Lesnar face him at Summerslam, keep Drew away from the title, and have the Scotsman win it again in front of an adoring crowd.
