Israel Adesanya “Definitely” Wants Rematch With Jan Blachowicz

Israel Adesanya was unsuccessful in his quest to become a champ-champ in the UFC over the weekend. The Middleweight Champion lost to Jan Blachowicz in the main event of UFC 259 for the Light Heavyweight title.

The fight went 5 rounds, with some odd scoring from the judges, but ultimately Jan Blachowicz was declared the winner. Blachowicz was on top for at least the last two rounds, and Adesanya did not really do anything to trouble the larger fighter over the course of the bout.

Adesanya’s team have said that they are absolutely looking at a potential rematch down the line. Izzy himself has said that he plans to go back down to Middleweight and defend the 185 strap, but 205 is still in his plans in the future.

Israel Adesanya and His Team Confirm Rematch Wants

‘We’re competitive, Israel’s ultra-competitive,’ Adesanya’s head coach Eugene Bareman said in an interview with Submission Radio. ‘Israel will go down and clean up and dominate 185 for a while. And then I do see Jan as being quite a long-reigning champion. I think we’ll definitely chase Jan again. He’s a worthy opponent and he’s beaten us and he’s a worthy opponent. I can’t exactly predict the future, but we will definitely come hunting for the Polish power again.’

It’s likely that this fight would not happen again for a long while. If Israel Adesanya were to jump back up to the LHW division it’s clear he will have to put on more mass to compete with the larger Blachowicz.
